People can learn a lot from how the iPhone maker Apple has re-focused it’s energy on the way people do business with big companies. Their Apple Apps store sells $30 million a day from selling all types of apps, from which the company gets a 30% cut of all sales. People who developed the apps get the rest for their hard work and earn a living from small yet useful stuff, well, not all of them. Most of the Apps store profits comes from games and other entertainment products that helps parents keep their children entertained on along drive and for may other reasons.
Sell a lot and earn a little, makes sense but not many in the IT industry has been so successful with such an approach where they stick to business sense of old. Big businesses dictating which products people use is no longer acceptable in the world of open-sourced where communities now decide the fate of products. This has some of the biggest names in the industry having a foot or two behind the scenes in bed with open-sourced developemnt even in secret, enough to gove them a source of income as they shift from old business sense that is slowly being diffused by this recession that is surely to stay.
