Google Gears - Beware Office

As Google Gears gets a service pack that allows it to function off-line, many are questioning the existence of rivalry between the two companies. Google’s Gears has become somewhat of a threat to the Office Line of software Microsoft made. Gaining off-line capabilities allows Gears to function much like the MS office with similar capabilities. Google has also added points to it’s relationship with developers with their release of the source code of the Gears program allowing developers to add their own touches to the program itself, an act Microsoft has been treating as a crime and an act of divulging company secrets. They have recently allowed some to view the source codes of office as they try to get the attention of developers, but their efforts are considered to be too cold at best by the many developers and programmers out there.
