The pioneering work Google Inc. has managed to do has resulted in something that all web users have been dreaming of for a long-long time, web applications that work even when it is not connected to the web. The company has released the source code of Google Gears which they have released to allow users to develop more functionality and other improvements. The released code is intended for use by JavaScript developers who write Ajax-style Web Applications. The good thing is that it runs on Internet Explorer on Windows, Fire fox in Windows, Mac OS and Linux and Safari also another Mac browser. The easy by which the application can be used on the spectrum of platforms is the best part for it was like offering free stuff without walls allowing them to be used anywhere. Gears in the form that works offline would have a size that is less than a megabyte for distribution. The company also encourages the developers who received the code to have them taken and checked by a standards company to standardize their functionality. The move allows a margin of safety for the company for they get to hear from developers first before they get to release their planned updates. The move is hailed to be the first true advancement in the evolution of web applications which has remained menial for ten years.
