Jjot it down
- Posted by editor on December 29th, 2008 filed in Information, Innovations

It’s almost the new year, and you need to take down a list of New Year’s resolutions online, but you need to spread out ideas or brainstorm with your loved ones, well there’s a note taking app ready for you: jjot:
Jjot is a lightning fast sticky note web application filled with smart features like archiving, search, and sharing. Jjot is very easy to use and understand (which is nice when you’re tackling any new web application), but what really stands out about Jjot is its speed. Everything you do on Jjot is satisfyingly snappy, which is so refreshing in an age of bloated web apps. Granted, Jjot’s speed might not be enough to make it stand out in the already overcrowded online note-taking and todo applications, but it’s on my good list.

ウェブサイトはハイブリッドになる
- Posted by Harry on December 15th, 2008 filed in Imp @ja

YouTube HD

You Tube, the most popular online video sharing service is finally pushing through with its launching of an optional High Definition or HD video for its site. The move came after a quite lengthy time of experimentation. It recently said that it is going to expand and upgrade its video player online to a HD widescreen which has a 16:9 aspect ratio. The new page is wider with 960 pixels. This comes as a very big improvement over its original video standard 4:3 aspect ratio. This was done to keep up with the 16:9 contents being shared. Now the old 4:3 videos are not quite blending in with the new player. A lot of its users are complaining about the black bars that are on the player side. A lot of them are annoyed with it. And rumors has it, that Google is planning to monetize the little black bars. I do HOPE NOT!

Sleep.fm

Sleep.fm is a browser based social alarm clock. It does not necessarily put you to sleep but it has a new way to wake you up in the morning, much like the movie flick, Iron Man, in a scene where Tony Stark’s friend for the night is awakened by the weather news spken by his computerized butler, Jarvis. Sleep.fm has something in that nature where you are awakened by a news of the latest local weather conditions, temperature with a computer generated voice and variety of soft bell sounds. You can activate the service just by typing in your local zip code and what time you want it to engage, as long as the browser tab is up and connected. In the near future it is hoping to offer a call back service that lets you assign a specific alarm as a phone call. It will be quite useful when you want to get out of an awkward blind date.

MashUp is a hybrid form of web application. It is a compilation of data from different sources and consolidated into one single tool. All of the contents in mashups are used from third party sources via public API. It uses RSS feeds. And due its popularity, a mashup editor was developed. There are many types of mashups. There are consumer mashups, data mashups and business mashups. But amidst the variety, the technology behind it is the just the same. Consumer mashup is the most common mashup . it is composed entirely of different types of media that are compiled into a single user interface. It is for commercial use. Data mashup comes next. Business mashups centers on various forms of data aggregation. Most often, mashups are widely used in Mapping services and social networking services, news and telecommunications.

SaaS

Or Software as a Service, is more of a software delivery service for web based applications that was initially un-favored by vendors and developers alike due to the many security issues. The advantages are that the system is maintained at either a host (third party provider which hosts or runs the software on their server) or at the providers won servers which greatly makes support a breeze. Imagine being able to repair, deploy enhancements on a software that is deployed to thousands upon thousands of users without having to send out upgrades to the said users. Or having to get each and everyone to log in and get the updated software which is not always possible. The developer or software owner simply has to change the software stored on the servers where the application (program) resides in and everybody who logs in to use it instantly gets the updated version of the software. Little downtime, fast deployment of the whole system is the key and sweetest point which has been improved on by developers and software manufacturers like Oracle giving us better more reliable systems.

More of Google Gears
- Posted by Avatar on June 1st, 2008 filed in Innovations
Google, one of the web’s leading companies has released the source code of a browser extension that allows online documents to be edited and saved even when the said computer is not connected to the internet. In a bold move, the same company has released the source code for the said browser extension turning it into an open-sourced venture to which developers and users alike can improve on. This overtakes Microsoft in their bid to do the same with projects that are under development. Google is the premier pioneer when it comes to implementing and adopting the move to take online applications offline allowing continued productivity even if the network is down. This eventuality has made the Google gears project ideal for implementing CRM solutions for enterprise and is currently slowly being adopted by many.

Be Wary of Freebies on the Web
- Posted by Brian Yalung on May 31st, 2008 filed in Information, Innovations
If we had a choice, we would go for the free software we can get on the web. There are a lot of them around us and apparently a tempting offer to pass up. But while we are enjoying these options, do remember that they have limited capacity. While some can make do with them, you just have to gain open consideration for possible threats such as spyware or viruses that may come along with them.
Nothing in the world comes free without strings attached. As far as the web is concerned, it is all and the same. Be wary of them.
Facebook Becoming Overloaded with Applications
- Posted by Brian Yalung on May 22nd, 2008 filed in Industry Leaders, Information
One thing you will notice about Facebook is that it is becoming more of a pastime rather than a social networking tool where you can find your lost friends from the past. We se these applications as something that makes us log on longer to them, a good scheme that will surely rack in the subscribers.
With this ploy evident, you will notice why it has become the leading social networking tool we hear of today. Many make it a point to log on each day not because of their friends but because of the applications that people have developed to mold Facebook into one of the ideal sites to be in today.
